Spurrell Studio Choir

The Spurrell Studio choir is open to all students of Spurrell Singing Studio that are between the ages of 10-15.  We rehearse on selected Sundays throughout the year (see rehearsal schedule) at Grace Academy for the Performing Arts (785 Pacific Avenue).  Attendance at all rehearsals in mandatory so please carefully examine the rehearsal schedule and place them on your family calendar.

We have an exciting line up of events scheduled for this year that is bound to enrich your child(ren)‘s musical experience.  The Spurrell Studio Choir gives your child(ren) the opportunity to expand their vocal growth, while providing a sense of community.  Students are encouraged to support one another and work together on the path to achievement. Our first performance will be in November at the Rotary Burlington Festival.  This will be our second year competing in the community choirs section and it’s a great place to get us started once again.

We will be performing in the Ontario Vocal Festival for the first time this year.  We will travel to Cambridge, Ontario to take part in OVF on either Monday, Feb 27, or Tuesday, Feb 28, 2012. More details will follow as they become available.

At our rehearsals (see attached schedule), we will be working on a substantial list of repertoire.  During one of these rehearsals, Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt (the Director of Choral Activities at The University of Toronto) will be visiting us as a guest clinician.  It will be an honour to have such a renowned educator working with the students to enrich their lives with music.

On March 4, 2012 at Eden United Church (Mississauga) we will spend the day in a recording session. 

On April 15, 2011 the choir will be performing at the Spirit Moves Show at Maplegrove United Church in Oakville.  This concert raises money for a local charity and provides us an opportunity to give back to our community.  April 22, 2011, we will perform at The Peel Music Festival in the community choirs section. 

From July 9-13, 2012, the Spurrell Studio Choir will be going to Choir Camp!!! During our stay at Westwind Inn on the Lake (www.westwindinn.net) we will enjoy some outdoor activities, as well as, rehearsing a new list of repertoire for the next season of performances (including Festival 500 in Summer, 2013). More information, including a detailed schedule and the required fees, will follow shortly.  Please mark these dates on your calendars as it is bound to be an eventful week full of laughs and music!

On the morning of July 25, 2012, the Spurrell Studio Choir has been invited to represent Ontario at the ORMTA (Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association) Provincial Conference in Burlington. We will be presenting a 30-minute concert of Canadian repertoire to all ORMTA members that are in attendance.
