Building a community of individual singers that join together to encourage and inspire
Natalie Spurrell, MMA, BMus, BMus.Ed., RMT - Artistic Director
Natalie was born into a musical family and has been performing since before she can remember. As a native Newfoundlander, music was an integral part of her upbringing and has remained a life-long passion.

Natalie holds a Bachelor of Music from Memorial University of Newfoundland, a Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a Master of Music Education from Boston University. She began teaching voice privately at the age of 16 and started teaching elementary music at Fern Hill School in 2000. For ten years, she directed Fern Hill’s annual musical production and conducted their award-winning choirs. Her choir was invited to sing with The Tenors at a PBS Special filmed at Koerner Hall, with special guest artists, Sarah MacLachlan and David Foster.

In 2010, Natalie completed a life-long dream of developing a singing program that would enhance her students' lives. Spurrell Singing Studio is a unique program that inspires students to develop individually through private instruction while still feeling a part of a community of singers. Her students have achieved great success in various music festivals and RCM examinations each year. The Spurrell Studio choir has received National awards and has been invited to represent Canada at International Choral Festivals celebrating choral music from around the world.
Personal Message
Music has always been an important part of my life, but sharing music with children and youth is my greatest passion. I believe in investing in my students' lives and building mutual trust and respect that gives them the courage to push themselves to achieve their very best. Building a community of singers that support each other along their musical journey is an integral facet of Spurrell Singing Studio. The majority of students choose to participate in one of the two Spurrell Studio choirs that rehearse each week. In these choirs, students get to know each other on a deeper level and are taught to respect and appreciate everyone's contribution to the group. All of my students are encouraged to celebrate their peer's musical successes, while still valuing their own acheivements. I believe that all of these important components foster a life-long appreciation of music sharing and learning. The vast majority of my students begin lessons as young children and I get the priviledge of watching them grow into confident young men and women. When you grow up in the Spurrell Studio family, you are a permanent member for life!
